Introduction

This new technology herbicide contains a unique formulation of florasulam (2.5g/litre) and fluroxypyr (100g/litre).

Cabadex is effective against a wide range of weeds, including difficult to control species such as Yarrow, Daisy and now Slender Speedwell at the same low rate of application.

Control is achieved using very low rates of active ingredients, making Cabadex the obvious choice for SAFE and environmentally sensitive weed management in the UK.

Mode of action

Cabadex combines two active ingredients with different modes of action.

Fluroxypyr is an auxinic herbicide that enters plants via the leaves and disrupts normal growth functions.

Florasulam however, can enter via the roots as well as the foliage, helping to ensure complete distribution throughout the plant.

Fluroxypyr and florasulam move through the plant in both the xylem and phloem vessels. This provides effective distribution and accumulation at the growing points in both shoots and roots.

Trials and commercial use have shown good control of Yellow Suckling Clover.

Areas of use

Cabadex can be used on areas of managed amenity turf or amenity grassland. This includes golf courses, winter sports pitches, race – courses and professional lawn care as well as airfields, roadside verges and embankments.

The product can be used on newly sown turf from the two leaf stage for spring or summer sowings. A good covering of grass should be present before application.

Safety of grass species

Cabadex is one of only a few selective herbicides in the UK which is safe on all newly sown, commonly occurring grass species. Cabadex has been tested for selectivity on the following range of turf grass species:

Annual meadow-grass (Poa annua)
Browntop bent (Agrostis tenuis)
Chewings fescue (Festuca rubra)
Creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera)
Perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne)
Smooth-stalked meadow-grass (Poa pratensis)
Rough stalked meadow-grass (Poa trivialis)

Rates of application

Apply 2 litres of Cabadex per hectare in a minimum of 200 litres of water per hectare (20 mls in a minimum of 2 litres of water per 100m²). Available in 5 litre cans packed in 4 x 5 litres per outer carton. Each 5 litre pack covers 25,000 m².

Application equipment

Cabadex can be applied through tractor-mounted hydraulic sprayers or knapsack sprayers, as a MEDIUM spray as defined by the BCPC system.

The use of Red and Blue polijet nozzles will give a COARSE spray quality and may not provide optimum spray coverage.

Application notes

Apply when weeds are actively growing (normally between March and October) Do not apply in periods of drought unless irrigation is applied.

Re-seeding can take place as little as 4 weeks after application. Clippings from grass treated with Cabadex can be safely used for mulch after the third cut.

Use of Cabadex is not subject to LERAP restrictions.
Cabadex contains 144g/l (14.5% w/w) fluroxypyr methyl heptyl ester (100g/l acid equivalent) and 2.5 g/l (0.25% w/w) florasulam.
